With summer fast approaching, I thought it would be a good time to share this list of FREE Summer Reading Programs.   Kids earn books and prizes by participating!

  • Daniel Boone Regional Library - This year’s themes are all about the night and realizing your dreams. The library’s summer reading program is a fun way to stay engaged in reading and learning over the summer. The program is free and there are versions for all ages, from the youngest babies to kids, teens and even adults. All versions begin June 1 and end August 4.
  • Missouri River Regional Library - The Dream Big Summer Reading Club is just around the corner! Starting Friday, June 1st, you will be able to register for the club on this page, and print out your own reading log. Registration and reading logs also will be available at Missouri River Regional Library, Osage County Public Library, and on our Bookmobile.

This year’s summer reading club kicks off at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 1. Dream Big with juggler and entertainer Brian Wendling, and pick up your reading log, instructions and other giveaway items.

  • Barnes & Noble Summer Reading (Grades 1 – 6) – Kids read eight books and keep a journal. They can then turn in their list at B & N for a free book.  Watch for the Summer Reading Kickoff event at your local B & N.
  • Chuck E. Cheese - kids read every day for two weeks and turn in their form for 10 free tokens.
  • Scholastic’s Summer Challenge - Kids log in how many minutes they have read and win virtual prizes.  They can also enter sweepstakes for a chance to win free books.
