Kid City Mid-Missouri is coming back to Columbia on August 25, 2012! There will be LOTS of FUN for the kids including a bounce house, obstacle course, technology zone, kids bank, treehouse, clubhouse t-ball area, and Kid City Raceway (just to name a few)! Dora and Elmo will be in attendance to take pictures with the kids! Don’t miss out on this awesome event!

Columbia Public Library
If you want to rekindle your interest in building models or if you want to introduce the hobby to your kids, then join us for demonstrations on building techniques. Kids 10 years and older with parental supervision can make a model to take home. You will need to register for the building portion of the program, but the demonstrations are open to all. Presented by the Central Missouri Scale Modelers. Ages 10 and older for the activity.

Build & Grow Workshop: Shrek Onion Carriage.  Each participant also receives a free apron, goggles, a project-themed patch, and a certification of merit upon completion of their project.  Be sure to pre-register as space is limited. Cost: FREE

Walk-in (All ages) The Story Tree goes outdoors. Walk the Naturescape Trail between 10 and 11 a.m. and find a volunteer naturalist ready to share a storybook or two with you. (In case of inclement weather the Story Tree will come indoors.)

Lots of entertainment, games, activities & giveaways! Focus is on health & safety. There will be visitors from the health, police, & fire departments of Columbia. Booths with games that include bean bag toss, dunk tank, potato sack races and much more! There will also be face painting, cotton candy, snow cones, a bounce house, and a special visitor from Macher Swim School, Paddles the Dog! Hockman’s ATA Martial arts will be hosting a spin the wheel along with the Shoe Carnival.  Orscheln will be offering crafts for the kids.

Free Tours of Connor’s Cave 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Rock Bridge Memorial State Park
Every Saturday and Sunday afternoon June 30 through August 19  you can enjoy a free guided tour of Connor’s Cave using park lights and helmets. Walk the Devil’s Icebox Trail on your own until you reach Devil’s Icebox where volunteers will assist you. Learn about caves and bats. Tours last about 15 minutes. Expect to get your feet wet!  Arrive anytime between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.  Reservations are not required.  The tours are recommended for ages 5 and up.

Russellville ATV Rodeo 5 p.m.
Russellville Lions Club
Ten classes for riders in three categories: Youth, Intermediate (including a Powder Puff Class) and Modifieds.  Races include Polebending, Cloverleaf and Keyhole patterns. Trophies and Medals awarded in Youth Classes.

The Columbia Parks and Recreation Family Fun Fest is back on August 15, 2012!

August’s theme is It’s a Circus! It will feature the Ringtop Circus Band, Ann Gaefke’s performing dogs, Jeff Copeland’s magic show, face painting & much more!

The Mizzou volleyball program will be hosting a free youth clinic prior to the season-opening Black & Gold Scrimmage. All participants get a free Mizzou Volleyball poster, pizza after the clinic and free admission to the match for them and their families. Participants will practice their skills with the help of the 2012 Mizzou Volleyball team.
